James Walter Strieck

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and Duncan Yoyo Champion, James W. Strieck, 82, of Bettendorf passed away Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. 

James W. Strieck was born on February 27, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Allar) Strieck. He married Marcia Anne Meyer on October 11, 1969, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2022. 

He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. 

James was the City Clerk and City Administrator of Bettendorf from 1969-1988. He retired from McLaughlin Body Company, where he worked as the Director of Human Resources. After retirement he found his true calling, working for the Bettendorf Community School District. 

James was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. His interests include golf, cooking and spending time with his family.

 He is survived by his daughters; Erin (Haley) Wikoff of Davenport, Carrie (Billy) Coats of Arlington, Texas, grandchildren; Isaiah (Amanda) Coats, Elena Coats, Meyer Wikoff, and great grandchild, Jeriah Coats. Brother-in-Law; James (Melissa) Meyer of Ft. Wayne, IN. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marcia, brother; Richard Strieck and sister-in-law; Jeanne Meyer.

The family would thank the nurses and staff at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the care given to Jim. Especially Lisa, Paul and Terri.
