James Morris

James V. Morris, 78, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Genesis East surrounded by his loving family. He is now dancing on the streets of gold in heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2015 at Berean Baptist Church where he was a member.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Berean Youth Group, whom Jim had mentored.

Jim was born August 6, 1936 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the son of James & Naomi (Austin) Morris.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  On July 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sue C. Cain in Davenport.

He retired from the Bettendorf Post Office where he had been a carrier and clerk.  He enjoyed golfing, March Madness, music, traveling, gardening and once bowled a 279.  Jim put God and family first and was active in his church.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue; his daughter, Kerri Morris of Davenport; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Kathy Morris of Davenport; his grandchildren, Justin and Mindy Morris and Shannon O’Brien; his sister, Patricia Smith; and many treasured family and friends, especially Al Mehlhouse.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
