James C. Overath, 50, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2004 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf where he was a member. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at the funeral home by 9:00 A.M. Monday. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born June 29, 1954 in Wood River, Illinois, the son of Jack C. & Theresa (Duncan) Overath. On June 18, 1977, he was united in marriage to Rosa S. Wedoe in Rockton, Illinois.
James was employed as plant operator at the Iowa American Water Company in Davenport where he had worked for the past 20 years.
During the Viet Nam Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Denver and was honorably discharged in 1975.
He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed muscle cars and visiting his property at the Wisconsin Dells. His dogs, “Buckwheat” and “Red Dog” were a special part of his life as well.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rosa; his sons, Joshua of Milan, Illinois and Jacob of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his mother, Theresa Overath of Wilsonville, Illinois; and his sisters, Jane Harvill of Wilsonville and Janet Porter of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
James was preceded in death by his father.
