James E. DeLay, 60, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Davenport Lutheran Home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family or to the American Cancer Society.
He was born December 29, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of John “Ray” & Margaret (Wilson) DeLay. On December 21, 1974, he was united in marriage to Joyce Preston in Davenport.
Jim was employed as a supply technician with the US Army Armament, Munitions & Chemical Command at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1985. In earlier years, he had also worked at John Deere Plow & Planter in Moline, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1967.
Watching the eagles along the river was on of his favorite pastimes along with traveling & taking short trips around the Quad-Cities. He enjoyed keeping his truck in good mechanical condition and especially loved the times spent with his beloved kids & grandkids.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joyce; his children & their spouses, Morgan & Joy DeLay of Walcott, Iowa, Donnie & Dawn Kindhart of Davenport, Diana & Bill Yeager of Davenport and Chrei DeLay of Davenport; and fourteen grandchildren.
