James O. Carlton, 70, of Maysville, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, in Davenport surrounded by his family.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 20, 2009 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery in Maysville, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department or to St. John’s United Methodist Church. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jim was born December 1, 1938 in Humeston, Iowa, the son of Hugh & Thirza (Ivy) Carlton. He was united in marriage to Janet J. Throckmorton on September 14, 1969 in Humeston.
Jim was employed for 40 years as a barber in Davenport, Dixon and Maysville. He had been an instructor for a number of years at the Davenport Barber College. He retired in 2004 due to Lewy Body Dementia. Jim had served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. In addition to being a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 353 in Dixon. Jim was also a member of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet; his children, Elizabeth (William) Gomez of Houston, Texas, Cristian Carlton of Eldridge, Nathan (Dena) Carlton, of Eldridge and Aaron Carlton, of Mobile, Alabama; his grandchildren, Willie, Oscar, Diana and Kaitlyn Gomez, Colton, Cody, Mikayla and Marissa Carlton; his brother, Bill (Phyllis) Carlton of Humeston; and his sister, Dee Ette Davidson of Indianola, Iowa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother-in-law, Bill Davidson.
