Janet S. Smith, 63, of Colona, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to Riverside Foursquare Church in LeClaire, Iowa, where she was a member.

Janet was born October 12, 1952 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of George & Helen (Boyer) Talbot.  She was united in marriage to Emerson Smith Jr. on June 19, 1982 in Colona.

Janet had been employed in food service at Augustana College in Rock Island.  She retired as a supervisor after 28 years.  She enjoyed Elvis Presley and country music. She also enjoyed camping, playing cards, bingo, dice and spending time with her family at their get-togethers.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Emerson; her daughters, Georgia (Jamey Sr.) Shoppa of Colona and Beni (Keith) Clinkenbeard of Bennett, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jamey Shoppa Jr., Emerson Shoppa, Hannah Shoppa, Joey Clinkenbeard and Abbi Clinkenbeard; two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rosemary (Ron) Mess of Princeton, Iowa, Jane Talbot of LeClaire, Iowa and Florence Talbot of LeClaire; her brother, Bill (Ona) Talbot of Davenport, Iowa; her close friends, Chris Abbott and Mary Kaplan; and two special “grandchildren” to her, Donald and Brady.  Janet was known as Granny by all and was a mother and grandmother to all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Tammy Stotlar; her brother, Thomas; and her sister, Bonnetta Jackson.
