Janice M. Ernster, 62, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, August 13, 2004 at her home following a sudden illness.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa where a prayer vigil service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 2001 St. Joseph St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend her graveside service should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home by 9:30 A.M Friday. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
She was born February 5, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Francis & Marie (Griffin) McDermott and attended Clark College in Dubuque. On February 23, 1963, she was united in marriage to R. Gene Ernster in Dubuque.
Janice retired from the General Electric Corporation in Eldridge, Iowa. Following her retirement, she was a licensed independent agent for the AFLAC Insurance Company.
She & her husband Gene, loved boating and enjoyed traveling as well. Janice was a warm & caring person who will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by those who knew & loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Gene; her sons, Michael Ernster of Bettendorf and David Ernster & his wife, Gina of Newbury, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Matthew & Lydia; her parents, Francis & Marie McDermott of Dubuque; her sisters, Patricia Haas & her husband, Urban of Dubuque and Maureen Stevenson & her husband, Mark of Boulder, Colorado; and many wonderful and special friends.
