Jay Walden, Jr.

Jay H. Walden, Jr. 83, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Trinity Bettendorf.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  A visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Those wishing to attend the service at the cemetery should meet at the funeral home by 11:30 A.M. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Born on August 15, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jay was the son of Jay H., Sr. and Iva B. (Neil) Walden. On April 3, 1952 in Erding, Germany, he married Elisabeth Kretschmer.

Jay served his country in the United States Air Force for 17 years, beginning in 1949. He was a computer specialist with the Rock Island Arsenal for almost 20 years.  Jay enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elisabeth; daughter, Monika (Jimmy Fox) Park of De Queen, Arkansas; son, James (Shawn) Walden of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Aaron Leonard and Trenton Walden; great-grandchildren, Katie and Liam Leonard; and step-grandchildren, Ethan and Allyson Paaske.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Virginia Ruth Hill.
