Jean Deere

September 8, 1924 — August 24, 2024

Bettendorf

Our dearest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jean Deere (born Wilma Jean Frow), passed away peacefully Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Audubon Society.

Jean was born September 8th, 1924, and grew up on a farm in Farmington, Iowa, with her parents Leroy Frow and Katie Hols, and her siblings Winnie, Laura Lee, and Bill. She married Gene Deere on December 31, 1944, while Gene was on leave from World War II. In 1947, their only son and apple of their eye was born, Joe. The family eventually settled in Bettendorf, Iowa, where Gene and Jean made many treasured memories at their home on Timberline Drive. Their three granddaughters, Heather, Allison, and Lindsay have fond memories of Thursday night dinners (and countless holidays), spending time with their grandmother, and enjoying all of the wonderful meals and desserts she would prepare.

Jean loved working at the Welfare Office and the friendships she made there. She loved her garden, and her canned jellies, pickles, and relishes were always in high demand. She was an active member of St. John’s Methodist Church, and the Audubon Society; and birding was a joy in her life. Even as she approached her 100th birthday, she still found much pleasure from the birds on her feeder at her window. Jean loved doing the daily crossword puzzle and jumble. Jean always had a positive attitude no matter what life threw at her, and a kind word for everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, son, and siblings. She is survived by her three granddaughters; her great-grandchildren Cale, Luke, Elliott, and Desmond; her daughter-in-law, Pat; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
