Jean Sackett was born on July 8, 1965 to David and Carol (Batty) Sackett. She grew up in LeClaire, Iowa, graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1983 and went on to earn an undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State University and a master’s in communication from New Mexico State University.
She married Bryan Heard on October 21, 1995. Together they raised four children. She was director of Safe Families for Children, then worked as a para educator at Edison Academy in Bettendorf and was most recently an administrative assistant at Shive-Hattery.
Jean had a passion for art and was always creating something new. She loved every kind of adventure and loved to travel. She helped anyone who needed her and spent many years sharing her home with safe family mothers and children, countless friends and family, various foster animals, and even a couple of litters of puppies. She was always there to help when you turned to her, whether it was making meals or masks, or when you just needed a friend to listen.
She was a follower of Christ and a member of Bettendorf Christian Church. She was a spiritual mother and friend to many and never hesitated to share encouragement or wisdom.
Those left to honor her memory include her parents, David and Carol Sackett; her husband, Bryan Heard; her children, Corey Roper, Shannon (Brennon) Ryner, Thomas Heard and Kelly Heard; her sisters, Cindy (Andy) Butler and Kathy (Kenny) Riechel; her sisters-in-law, Lietta (Glen) Riexinger and Gail (Danny) Gatton; her brother-in-law, Michael (Deede) Heard; and many nieces and nephews.
