Jean A. Schilling, 85, of Eldridge, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Davenport Lutheran Home.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Grand Haven in Eldridge. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jean was born on March 5, 1930 in Davenport, the daughter of Albert William and Lois H. (Wiese) Hamann. On July 3, 1954, she married Leonard D. Schilling.
Jean worked as the city clerk for the city of Eldridge for 29 years. Prior to that, she along with her brother, Donald, co-owned the Jack & Jill Grocery Store in Eldridge from 1956 – 1962.
Jean was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir for 40 years. She was member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club where she participated in their annual hike every summer for numerous years. She enjoyed racquet ball and was a pitcher and center fielder in a fast pitch softball league, playing on the team, Glicks Chicks. She was involved in the national championship games in the early 1950’s.
Those left to honor her memory include her brother, Donald H. (Judi) Hamann of Eldridge and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Caroline Jean Schilling; and one brother, Allen.
