Jeannette Laura Blunk, 85, a life-long resident of Scott County died on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Manor Care Utica Ridge of Davenport where she had resided the past three years.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport where she was a member. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday at the church and from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Grove School Preservation or St. Paul Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born on July 15, 1926 in Eldridge, Iowa, the daughter of Lavinius & Elsie (Schaff) Kuehl. She graduated 8 th grade from Lincoln Township School #3 and subsequently graduated on May 23, 1943 from Busselle School of Cosmetology at age 16. Following graduation, she was employed as a beautician at the former Marvin & Allen of Davenport.
On December 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Delbert E. Blunk at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2011.
Jeannette was a devoted, loving mom and grandma who always put the needs of her family before her own. Following her marriage, she continued to cut and style the hair of her friends and family.
Jeannette drove school bus for the Pleasant Valley Community School District for many years and became the second “mom” to many of the children on her bus route. She was known for always having a smile on her face. She also worked at the former Brenton Bank of Davenport in their check processing department.
In addition to the church, she was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau Women’s Group, Scott County Pork Producers and Scott County 4-H. Many will remember Jeannette for the beautiful registered collies that she raised.
Jeannette & Delbert were members of the Forest Grove Community Club and spent many enjoyable hours playing cards with their family and many friends. She took great pleasure in the simple things of life such as cooking, baking and making sure her children were dressed warmly on cold days. She will be sadly missed, but her beautiful memory will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Barbara (Ric) Andersen of Muscatine, Iowa & their children, Meredith & Liam; her son, David Blunk of Santa Barbara, California, her son, Larry (Judi) Blunk of Bettendorf, & their children, Roger, Kyle, Lisa and Allison (Jeremy) Schmitz & their daughter - Ainsley; her son, Rod Blunk of Bettendorf, her former daughter-in-law, Annette Blunk of LeClaire, Iowa & their children, Laura, Austin, Ryan & Landry; her son, Bob (Michelle) Blunk of Bettendorf & their children, Carter, Cameron & Cara; her sister, Betty Dexter of Park View, Iowa; her brother, Wesley (Ann) Kuehl of Eldridge; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husband, Jeannette was preceded in death by her sister, Velma Keppy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Arcadia Unit at Manor Care Utica Ridge, Davenport for the loving care they provided to Jeannette these past few years.
