Jeffrey Thomas Sime passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Jeff was born on April 8, 1955, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, the son of John Sime and Joan (O’Donahue) McGill. He married Valerie Creech in Las Vegas on June 29, 1981. Jeff worked for Pepsi Co. of Davenport for 35 years, retiring in 2021.
Music was a big part of Jeff’s life. He started at age 13 and eventually became a blue’s rock and roll guitarist and sang vocals for local bands such as “Spike”, “Wild Bunch” and “Doggin’ Out”. He was inducted in the Quad City Blues Hall of Fame in 2019. He rode Harleys for years and enjoyed working on motors. There was no motor that he could not fix. He became PAPAW at the age of 34. He was always there for them, attending sports events, dance theater, or whatever they were into at the time. He was a great husband, father and grandfather, above all, he was the love of Valerie’s life.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie; children, Allie (Nick) Voss, Matthew (Myra) Mitchell, and Nathan Mitchell; grandchildren, Kal, Cody, Dalton, Carly, Taylor, Lauren, J.J., Gavyn, Huxley, Rylan; five great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Jill) Sime, and Eric (Meredith) Sime; sister, Laurie McLaughlin; nephews, Cam McLaughlin, Danny Sime, Nick Sime, sister-in-law, Cynthia Creech and many other beloved family and friends. His favorite nurse was LeAnne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Chuck McGill, and best friend and fellow musician, Richie Reeves.
A service to celebrate the life of Jeff will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the blood bank of the donor’s choice, or the American Cancer Society.
