Jennie Kapalis

Jennie Kapalis, 91, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Jersey Ridge Place in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 15, 2006 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Island where she was a member. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa, 3838 70th St., Suite 101, Urbandale, Iowa 50322.
She was born in East Moline, Illinois on September 24, 1914, the daughter of Peter & Alexandra (Triandafilakis) Chickris. On April 23, 1950, Jennie married John Kapalis in East Moline, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Jennie worked at Tri-City Food Store in Silvis, Illinois. She was a tireless volunteer in many school, church and other community organizations.
Her interests and activities included caring for her garden and doing needlepoint. Her beloved family, especially her grandchildren were the joy of her life and she treasured every minute they could be together.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Alexis Allen of Bettendorf; her son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Diane Kapalis of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Matthew Kapalis of Bettendorf and Kristin Allen of Bettendorf; and her sisters & brother-in-law, Theresa Chickris and Bess & Bill Dell, all of East Moline, Illinois.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Michael and Chris Chickris; her sister, Sue Chickris; and by her parents.
