Jere T. Hatler, 83, a resident of Bettendorf, died February 23, 2018 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Bettendorf. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Bettendorf. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on October 12, 1934 in Martin, Tennessee, Jere was the son of Governor McKinley and Glaydes Bryan (Turner) Hatler. On July 21, 1957 Jere was united in marriage to Martha Sue Delaney in Gleason, Tennessee.
Jere served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953-1956. For 31 years he worked for The Department of the Army, retiring in 1990. Jere was an ordained Deacon at First Baptist Church, where he was a member for 44 years, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending as many athletic and extra-curricular events as he could.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue; children, Tammy Sue Hatler-Watson of LeClaire, and Terry Len (Kelly) Hatler of Bettendorf; Grandchildren, J. L. (Carrie), Joshua (Kirsten), Joseph Hatler, Brett and Ryan Watson; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Madisyn, Owen, and Jase, with another great-granddaughter on the way; three nephews, eight nieces, and their families.
Jere was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy, Eleanor, Loucille, and Wilma; and a brother, Lloyd.
