Jerold L. "Jerry" Smith

Jerold L. “Jerry” Smith, 68, a resident of Blue Grass, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa after a long battle with cancer.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 27, 2007 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Blue Grass Fire Department.
Jerry was born July 12, 1939 in Cordova, Illinois, the son of John E. & Mary (Durbin) Smith. He had served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after stationed in Germany for a number of years.
He had worked for the former Peter Pan Bakery in Davenport until its closing and he was then employed with Alcoa until his retirement in 1999.
Those left to honor his memory include his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Robert and Harriet Smith, Mount Carroll, Illinois, John & Mary Joe Smith, of Blue Grass; his brothers-in-law, Tony Wakefield and Jim Thulen; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Norma Jean Smith and Diane Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Lenard and James; and his sisters, Luella Wakefield and Dorothy Thulen
