Jerry D. Carter, 77, of Bettendorf passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jerry was born on August 9, 1941 in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the son of Robert and Ruby (Roland) Carter Sr. On January 25, 1963 he married Patricia Wetteland in Fort Madison, Iowa. He graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1959, and was a proud Bloodhound his whole life. Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1959 – 1962. He worked for 40 years as a machine operator at Nestle Purina in Davenport. Jerry was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, loved learning about history whether through books, the internet or movies, and was known as a great cook. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Patricia Carter of Bettendorf; daughter, Carissa (Patrick) Huffman of Bettendorf; son, Jason Carter of Camanche, Iowa; three grandsons, Ethan and Garrett Carter of Camanche, Conor Huffman of Bettendorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
