Jerris G. “Jerry” Petersen, 80, of Donahue, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the Donahue American Legion Post 532 will be held in Maysville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department, the Donahue Sportsmen’s Club, American Legion Post 532 or a charity of the Donor’s choice.
Jerry was born November 15, 1932 in Walcott, the son of Chris & Elsie (Hess) Petersen.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. Jerry was united in marriage to Ruth L. Fitzgerald on October 18, 1961 in Davenport.
Jerry was co-owner of P & W Implement in Donahue for forty years. He was a fifty-eight year member of the Donahue American Legion Post 532 where he had been the former head of the firing squad and membership chair. He was also Past-President and Treasurer of the Donahue Sportsmen’s Club and served as Treasurer of the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department. He and Ruth were also former members of the Davenport Moose Lodge.
Jerry was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and he enjoyed playing Solitaire.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Ruth; his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas & Cathy Petersen of Cedar Rapids and their children, Ellen & Christian; Craig & Dotti Petersen of Davenport and their children, Jessyca, AJ & Jacen; and his sisters, Corella Levien of Eldridge and Cora Bergeson of Seneca, Illinois.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Amy; and his brother, Burt.
