Jerry L. Dytert, 88, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 22, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf.
He was born December 6, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jerry & Louise (Zid) Dytert. On July 7, 1947, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Kanellis in Cedar Rapids. She preceded in death on November 29, 1986.
Jerry was employed as a sales representative for the Equitable Life Assurance Society, beginning his career in March of 1951.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as an aide-de-camp to Major General McDonald on General Douglas McArthur’s staff. He was honorably discharged at a Captain in 1946 and received the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He is survived by his nephew, Michael Kanellis of Cedar Rapids.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
