Jerry L. Merrell, 62, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
He was born October 21, 1945 in Cotter, Arkansas, the son of Talmadge & Eulalia (Stafford) Merrell. On September 4, 1971, he was united in marriage to Ruth L. Suiter in Galesburg, Illinois.
Jerry was employed for the J. I. Case Company of Bettendorf and retired as a shearer operator for Case IH in March of 2001 after 30 years with the company.
He was an Army veteran and in earlier years, enjoyed hunting & fishing. His family, especially his beloved granddaughters, were the joy of his life.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Raejean (Corey) Clements of Riverdale, Iowa; his son, Jerry L. (Amy) Merrill Jr. of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his granddaughters, Savanna L. Clements & Ashlynn L. Clements; his mother, Eulalia Merrell of Bettendorf; his step-daughter, Linda (Phil Hall) Hylton of Bettendorf; his sister, Carol (Doug) Houston of Bettendorf; and his brother, Larry Merrell of Davenport.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father; and his brothers, Ray & Gene.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff of the Clarissa Cook Hospice and Genesis Medical Center’s emergency room staff, 6th floor staff and the Intensive
Care Unit staff for their compassionate and professional care shown during Jerry’s illness.
