Joan Yvonne Bittner

Joan Yvonne Bittner, 91, a former resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Thursday, March 7, 2023 at the Kahl Home for the Aged in Davenport, Iowa.

Private family services will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kahl Home or the Davenport Salvation Army. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born in El Centro, California, the daughter of John and Irmarie (King) Angel.  On June 28, 1954, she was united in marriage to R. Richard “Dick” Bittner in San Diego, California.  He preceded her in death on February 23, 2019.

Joan had attended San Diego State University and earned her BA in Education in 1955 from the University of Iowa.     

She was a devoted homemaker and mom who, in earlier years, was a schoolteacher at Perry Elementary School in Davenport.

She was an avid member of the Genealogy Club and a former member of the Pleasant Valley School Board.  She will be remembered for her sharp wit and her keen sense of humor.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Kimberly (Tim) Montgomery of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lynn Von Schneidau of Santa Barbara, California, Todd Bittner of Bettendorf and Jeffrey (Sumera) Bittner of Bettendorf, and her grandchildren, Blake, Ellie, Zach, Nick, Jenna, Ashley and Ethan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Bankston.

The family would like to express an immense debt of gratitude to the Kahl Home Staff for the loving and compassionate care shown to their mother during the last few years.
