Joan Watkins

Joan L. Watkins, 80, a resident of Bettendorf, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme St. in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to CHC/Edgerton.

Born on December 18, 1936 in Davenport, Joan was the daughter of Charles, Sr. and Ermel (Wooden) Lueth. On September 8, 1957 in Davenport, she married Richard A. “Dick” Watkins. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.

Joan assisted her husband with their appliance repair shop, located in Pleasant Valley. She also drove a school bus for the Pleasant Valley School District and worked for H&R Block for many years. Joan enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and genealogy. She was active in the German American Heritage Center in Davenport.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Corrine Schurke of LeClaire and Stefanie (Dennis) Holman of Davenport; son, Mark (Dina) Watkins of Long Island, New York; grandchildren, Seth Schurke, Rachel Mirfield, Jennifer Watkins, and Michael Watkins; great-grandchildren, Jenessa Shoemaker, Rylan Lovejoy, Hunter Schurke, and Winnie Mirfield.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Darryl and Charles, Jr.; sisters, June and Ermel Jean.
