Joan A. Flesher, 82, of Bettendorf and formerly of LeClaire, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Bettendorf Healthcare Center in Bettendorf.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., Friday, February 26, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services on Friday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Memorials may be made to the family.
Joan was born June 1, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Charles P. & Julia Colette (Potts) Mercurio. She was united in marriage to Elmer A. “Bud” Flesher on June 26, 1947 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
Primarily a homemaker, Joan was a pristine gardener and an exceptional watercolorist. She was also a talented ceramist. An excellent entertainer, she was known to have her door open for anyone who needed comfort and care. She also spent some time as a volunteer art teacher. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, boating on Lake Erie and on the Mississippi River in earlier years and spending time with her grandchildren,
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo & Russell Auliff, of LeClaire and their children, David A. (Lara) Foland, San Antonio, Texas, Staff Sergeant 82nd Airborne Greg A. (Laura) Foland, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and currently serving in Afghanistan, James Patrick Auliff, LeClaire, Brian L. Auliff, LeClaire, Frederick M. (Marsha) Auliff, LeClaire and Michael R.(Megan) Ayers, Jr., Davenport;
her sons, Charles E. (Denise) Flesher of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Christopher R. (Jane) Flesher of Pleasant Valley, Iowa and their children, Lesley Flesher and Branlee Flesher, both of Pleasant Valley; her great-grandchildren, Leah & Franklin Foland, Ft. Bragg, Faith Star Ayers, Davenport and Megan & Hunter Auliff, LeClaire; her sisters, Alice Mercurio of Euclid, Ohio and Marsha (Andrew) Kaschalk, of Willoughby, Ohio; her lovable standard poodle, (Poodle-Poodle) Chance; and her cats, Mr. Hemingway and Gin.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and by her grandson, Jonathan Foland.
The family would like to express special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Genesis Hospice and Dr. Myra Daniel for all their care and concern.
