Joanne M. Graf, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, August 28, 2009 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family to be used to place a bench in her memory in Leach Park, Bettendorf.
Joanne was born May 29, 1935 in Kewanee, Illinois the daughter of Chester and Helen (Grudzinski) Elgin. On December 29, 1954 she was united in marriage to Donald Graf in Kewanee.
Joanne worked in assembly for Honda, Dayco and Brammers. She took care of her mother and father in their later years and also cared for and spent time with all of her grandchildren great-grandchildren. Whenever the grandchildren went to her house they always left with a care package.
She loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, chihuahuas and cheesy popcorn.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Donald; her daughters, Connie (James) Von Holdt of Bettendorf, Cathy Hamann of Bettendorf, Caren (Brian) Buckley of Milan, Illinois and Candy (Michael) Burns of Davenport, Iowa; her grandchildren, Tracy (Robert) Purdy of East Moline, Illinois, Todd (Teresa Mayhew) Von Holdt of Bettendorf, Matt (Sarah Phillips) Von Holdt of Rock Island, Illinois, Jason (Maria) Hamann of Ottawa, Illinois, Janice (Kenneth Cornett) Hamann of Davenport, Brent Fowler of Henderson, Nevada and Brad Burns of Davenport; her nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Chester (Janet) Elgin Jr. of Kewanee, Illinois; and her special friends, Jackie and Casey Bernauer, Jenny Tipsword and Mona Vallard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Donald.
Joanne’s family would like to extend special thanks to all of the doctors and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Pulmonary Unit as well as all of her other doctors who provided care over the years.
