Joe Deere, 57, a resident of Lenexa, Kansas and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri following an unexpected illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Joe was born January 6, 1947 in Keokuk, Iowa, the beloved son of Gene L. & Jean (Frow) Deere. He was a 1965 graduate of Bettendorf High School and received his BBA degree from the University of Iowa. He later received his MBA degree from St. Ambrose University.
He was employed as a certified commercial appraiser for Shaner Appraisals of Overland Park, Kansas and was within one test of receiving his MAI appraiser designation. Joe’s father emphasized sports and his mother emphasized academics, and he was always able to please both of his parents. He was a hard-worker, loved his job, and enjoyed the company of the people he worked with.
Joe was an avid runner all of his life and participated in several triathlons, marathons and half-marathons. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hiking, traveling, photography, and biking. He took pleasure in gardening and was especially accomplished in growing dahlias. He was also an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan.
His family was the joy of his life and those left to honor his memory include his mother, Jean Deere of Bettendorf; his daughters, Heather Deere & her husband, Cliff Hall of Denver, Colorado, Allison Deere and Lindsay Deere, both of Iowa City, Iowa; their mother, Pat Gleeson of LeClaire, Iowa; his grandson, Cale.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Gene.
