John H. Carmody, 84, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Westwing Place in DeWitt, Iowa.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
John was born August 30, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois, one of six children to John & Medora Carmody. He had served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. On August 5, 1961, John was united in marriage to Marilee Williamson in Peoria. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2013.
John retired from Caterpillar in 1988 after serving as the manager of the credit union. He then worked with several credit unions before retiring in 1995.
John was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Brad Carmody and his fiancé Ann Clemens of Eldridge; his daughter, Heather “Lori” Malito of Davenport, Iowa; his grandchildren, Cydnie, Mykenzie & Adelyn Carmody, Mindy Malito and Shanelle Josvanger; his great-grandchildren, Blake & Noah Malito; his brother, Tom Carmody of Washington, Illinois; and his sisters, Mary Carmody and Karen Carson, both of Davie, Florida
In addition to his wife, Marilee, John was preceded in death by his brother, David Carmody and his sister, Joan Carmody.
