John A. Endresak, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at UnityPoint Health Trinity Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf VFW Honor Guard or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Born on November 30, 1925 in Bettendorf, John was the son of Joseph Henry and Annie (Jernus) Endresak. On August 10, 1946 in Davenport, John married Geraldine A. Kane. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2016.
John served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 – 1946 and again during the Korean War from 1951-1952. He worked as a mill operator for Alcoa, retiring in 1980. John attended First Baptist Church in Bettendorf; and was an active member of Bettendorf VFW Post 9128, serving many years on the Honor Guard. He enjoyed playing BINGO, and card games, including Euchre and Thirty-One; yard work and gardening. John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. John loved spending time with his family, attending activities, events and get-togethers.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Jonette (Norm) Appleton of Bettendorf; son-in-law, Richard Bettis of LeClaire; four grandchildren, Yvette (Brian Knaack) Bettis, Kim (Tom) Schmidt, Eric Endresak and Jenny (Todd) Kobiela; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Bettis; son, John Endresak, Jr; brothers, Joseph, Frank, Walter and Jim Endresak; and a sister, Elizabeth Tadder.
