John W. George, 61, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.

His funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, August 8, 2011 at Park View Lutheran Church of Park View, Iowa where he attended. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born July 15, 1950 in Davenport, the son of John W. & Leona (Little) George. On May 23, 1982, he was united in marriage to Vivian S. Helble at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Davenport.

John was a U.S. Navy veteran with service in the Azores as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged in 1974.

He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2007 as a machine tool operator after 32 years of faithful service.

John was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting & fishing. An avid reader, he enjoyed Tom Clancy novels and had great interest in history. He will always be remembered as a man of faith who loved the Lord and was devoted to his beloved family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Vivian; his daughter, Victoria George of Princeton, Iowa; his son, John L. George of Verona, Wisconsin; his brothers, Ron (Gail) George of Bettendorf and Dave (Sandra) George of Davenport; his nieces & nephews, Susan (Doug) Littrel, Cathy (Jim) Hettrick, Ron (Sue) George, David L. George, Derek (Owenne) George and Wes (Jennifer) George; and many great-nieces & great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Dale.
