John H. Jessen, 88, of Davenport, died Friday, October 12, 2012 at Manor Care, Utica Ridge in Davenport.
A memorial service for John will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport in care of McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home 644 River Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722.
Born on May 2, 1924 in Maquoketa, Iowa, he was the son of John and Eldora May Zirkelbach Jessen.
John served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946 during World War II. He worked for J.I. Case Company and retired from Alcoa. John enjoyed collecting guns and was a pilot for 50 years. Amelia Earhart was his “flying hero.” He was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his sisters, Rose Mary Sewing of Minden, IA and Ida Mae Stauthammer of Pekin, IL; and a half-sister, Donna of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
