John E. Koch

John E. Koch, 92, of Bettendorf passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. 

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

John was born on June 1, 1932 in Greely, Colorado, the son of George and Francis (Ewing) Koch. Following high school, he continued his education at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where he achieved his bachelor’s degree in engineering. On December 29, 1973, John was united in marriage to Pauline Meierotto in Houghton, Iowa. He worked as a mechanical engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1987. John enjoyed being outdoors, and especially enjoyed snowmobiling, sail boating, and camping. He obtained his private pilot’s license and had a passion for airplanes and aviation, a passion which was passed down from his father. John also loved spending time with his family and taking numerous cross-country road trips. 

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Michelle (Eric) Lovell of West Des Moines, Iowa and Jason (Jana) Koch of Bettendorf; and five grandchildren, Stella, Mary, Ellis, and Harper Lovell, and Grace Koch. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; and brother, Larry.
