John A. Lensing, 73, of Bettendorf passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans).
John was born on December 16, 1950 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Ralph “Jackie” and Corrine (Zweibohmer) Lensing. He served in the U.S Army for over 22 years and was stationed in various locations including Hawaii and Germany. John worked as the MWR director at the Rock Island Arsenal for 20 years prior to his retirement in 2013. On April 3, 1971, John was united in marriage to Rose L. Moore at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf. He enjoyed fishing, cheering on his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and in his younger years, hunting. He loved and adored his four dogs, Tootles, Gus, Cooper, and Frankie. John was a member of the NCOA.
Those left to honor his memory are his children, Julie Stephens of Bettendorf, April (Daniel) Novotny of Marion, Iowa, Chris (Heidi) Lensing of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Kyle (Jessica) Picha of Bettendorf; six grandchildren, Justis (Easton) Burgin, Cullen and Mattias Lensing, Lillian and Waverly Novotny, Angelo Guerrero; two great-grandchildren, Jentri and Remi Burgin; siblings, David (Diane) Lensing, Pam (Mike) Burke, Bette (Paul) Schmitt, and Jeanne (Brian) Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose in 2023; and two brothers, Richie and John Lensing.
