John Madden

John J. Madden, 88, of Park View, Iowa passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

John was born on January 11, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Clarence and Helen (Clark) Madden.  Following his service in the U.S. Navy, John relocated to Peoria, Illinois where he met his future wife, Barbara Campen.  They married on December 31, 1968.  They settled in Park View, after the 3M company transferred him.  John became one of the first presidents of the Park View Homeowners Association where he oversaw the first sidewalk and playground equipment installations.  He was a long time President of the Park View Sewer Board, and after negotiating a merger, the Sewer and Water company, keeping those utilities nonprofit for the best interest of the residents of Park View.

John worked as a salesman after the 3M company closed its Davenport office. Later he founded John Madden Sales to service lighting needs for local businesses, and later put up a mini-storage facility.  He was an avid runner and member of the Cornbelt Racing Team for many years and active with Toastmasters.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Barb Madden of Davenport; children, Steve (Sherrie) Madden of Park View and Audra Hatrwigsen of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren, Maia and Lazuli Hartwigsen, Katie Laughlin, DJ (Sara) Laughlin, and Kerry (Blake) Lederer; great-granddaughter, Kiera Laughlin; and several nieces and nephews, including Paula (Myron) Cox and Bill (Shelley) Madden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Don, Kathleen, and Rita.
