John Schomer

John L. Schomer, 76, of Davenport passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

John was born on March 1, 1946 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of John E. and Matilda (Brooks) Schomer.  He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964.  On March 5, 1966, he married Laura L. Hoke in Rock Island.  John worked as a core cleaner for 43 years at Black Hawk Foundry in Davenport.  He enjoyed watching television and movies, and listening to the music of Hank Williams Sr., but most importantly the light of his life was his daughter, Kelly.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughter, Kelly (Don Stevens) Hamby of Davenport; five siblings, Judy (Hank) St. Clair, Joyce (Gary) Temple, Cindy (Duane) Prior, Jack (Kathy) Schomer, and Mike Schomer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura; son-in-law, Barry Hamby; and four siblings, Evelyn Anderson, Bonnie Barnes, Barbara Schomer, and Robert Schomer.
