John Strong

John E. Strong, Jr., 66, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Manor Care – Locust St. in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at First Assembly of God in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the John E. Strong, Jr. Memorial Fund.
Born on November 28, 1946 in Caldwell, KS, John was the son of John E. Sr. and Nettie (Sheridan) Strong. On April 10, 1971 in Rock Island, IL, he married Goldie McFarland.
John faithfully served his country in the United States Armed Forces, serving three years in the Army and thirteen years in the Air Force. John worked in maintenance for McDonalds and most recently for Wal-Mart. He enjoyed model cars and airplanes, eating out, going on trips, tinkering with cars and viewing the riverfront. John cherished his time spent with family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Goldie; daughters, Cindy (Steve) Riebschlager of Cleveland, TN, Wendy Strong of Osteen, FL and Terri Stong-Reinier of Davenport; sons, Andrew (Amy) Strong of Buffalo and Daniel Strong of Davenport; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene Carlsen of Sierra Vista, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
