John S. Watt, 82, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Funeral services will held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport at a later date. Memorials may be made to Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport.
John was born May 21, 1940 in Green City, Missouri, the son of Theodore & Ilene (Stewart) Watt. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Janis F. Shipley on July 5, 1958 in Chillicothe, Missouri and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage together.
John was in the United States Air Force for eight years, stationed in Texas, Missouri and Greenland. He was a mechanic for many years at the former Stewart Mobil in Bettendorf and with Blohm’s Garage in Davenport.
He enjoyed cars, NASCAR and he had raced in earlier years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jan; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy & Chuck Ruth of Ely, Iowa; his son, Steve Watt of Davenport; his grandchildren, Chad (Meghan) Ruth, Cara (Zack) Murguia, David (Candace) Watt and Allyson (Tony) Leach; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen Kitterman of Florida; and his brother-in-law, Bill (Polly) Shipley of St. Paul, Missouri.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Stewart and Phillip Watt; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Watt.
