John C. Moffit, 87, a life-long resident of rural LeClaire, Iowa died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Crest Health Center in Davenport, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 6, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation for John will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour before services on Monday. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Presbyterian Church (where he was a member), the American Heart Association, Scott County 4-H or to Amenity Hospice.
He was born November 30, 1920 on the Moffit family homestead in rural LeClaire, the son of William & Stella (Wilson) Moffit. On January 1, 1942, he was united in marriage to Laura S. Dodds in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
The Moffit farm was a Century Farm having been in the same family for over 100 years. John was a farmer all of his life and even when his health began to fail, he still remained vitally interested in the daily operation of the farm
During his life, he was a faithful member of many boards, committees and organizations throughout Scott County. He enjoyed being active in farming organizations, school functions, community activities and church groups all of his adult life. During his spare time, he took great pleasure in caring for his yard & garden. Above all else, his beloved family was the center John’s life and he treasured every moment he could spend with them.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Laura; his daughters, Eileen (Andy) Dexter of Eldridge, Iowa, Sandy (DuWayne) Arp of Durango, Iowa and Jean (Glen) Keppy of Arlington, Virginia; his sons, Tom (Nancee) Moffit of LeClaire and John Moffit of Coal Valley, Illinois; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and another expected very soon; his sister, Ethel Holst of LeClaire; and many other relatives and beloved friends.
His sisters, Esther Shoemaker and Eva Saur; and his brother William Moffit preceded John in death.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staffs of Crest Health Center and Amenity Hospice for their professional & compassionate care.
