Jack Carney, 80, formerly of San Jose California, died peacefully, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, Bettendorf.
Jack was born May 7, 1928 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the son of Edward and Harriett Carney. He left home at the age of 17 to join the U.S. Marines. Jack was very proud to be a Marine and served from February 1946 to November 1947 when he received an honorable discharge. He attended Georgetown University, Washington D.C. graduating with a degree in finance. After graduation, he worked in the banking business, with the Federal Reserve. He resided in San Francisco, San Mateo, Burlingame and finally San Jose before moving to Iowa in 2005.
Jack had many friends and was always known for his bright blue eyes, his infectious smile and his ever-present mischievous sense of humor. He also had a beautiful baritone singing voice. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Those left to honor his memory include his sisters Kay, Helen, Anne, Pat, and Sheila, and brothers, Frank, Ted and Dick, 32 nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces/nephews. Beloved friends who will lovingly remember Jack include Bill Kenney and Gina and Steve Six-Kudo.
Jack was preceded in death by an infant brother Edward, and sisters “Billie” (Dorothy), Mary and Peggy. His beloved dog Darby waits for him over the “rainbow bridge”.
The family wishes to thank Connie, Debbie, Jodi and all the other staff at the Iowa Masonic Health Care Facility for the outstanding care, kindness and compassion provided to Jack. Our deep appreciation to the staff of Amenity Hospice who were so dedicated and made Jack’s last weeks comfortable and enjoyable. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Residents Fund at the Iowa Masonic Health Care Facility would be appreciated. ( 2500 Grant St., Bettendorf, Iowa, 52722)
