John H. McCulley, 88, of Davenport, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Crest Health Center, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 9, 2007 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the services with a Masonic service to be held at 1:00 P.M. Private burial services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
John was born October 2, 1918 in Buffalo, Iowa, the son of Harry L. & Mildred A. (Thuenen) McCulley. He was united in marriage to Bebe D. Solik on October 5, 1940 in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1977. He was later united in marriage to Healrdeen Sade Engel on January 14, 1978 in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1989.
During World War II, John served in the U.S. Navy Seabees and was honorably discharged.
He retired in 1980 after 34 years of service with Frizzelle and Parsons Die Sinking Company.
John was Master of Fraternal Lodge #221 in 1963 and a 50-year member; Monarch of Mohassan Grotto in 1972, Master of Kadosh of Davenport Consistory in 1978, and a 33rd Degree mason. He was also a member of Kaaba Shrine, Rainbow Grand Cross of Colors, and the Larry Goenwald Post #532 of American Legion in Donahue. He was also a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sharon McCulley of Jackson, Michigan and Kathleen (Phillip) Bender of Loves Park, Illinois; his step-sons, Dick (Robin) Sade and Harold (Helga) Sade of Davenport; his grandchildren, Erick (Tammy) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Christine Zaccanti of Loves Park, and Steven (Brandie) Johnson of Byron, Illinois; his great-grandchildren, Alexandra Johnson, Sammantha Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, and Samuel Zaccanti; and his special friend, Will Warner, of Davenport.
In addition to his wives, Bebe & Hearldeen, John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, and his special friend, Verna Trost.
