John H. Snodgrass, 69, of Madison, Alabama, and formerly of East Moline, Illinois died on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at his residence in Madison.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
John was born July 3, 1937 in Portland Township, Illinois, the son of Ira & Annie (Weimer) Snodgrass and was a graduate of Erie High School in Erie, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Ann Smith on September 27, 1980 in Bettendorf.
John was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal and by the United States Army and Troop Command in St. Louis, Missouri as an equipment specialist, retiring in 1996.
He was a member and Past Master of the Athens Masonic Lodge in Athens, Alabama and was Past Patron of the Athens Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. His memberships included the Cahaba Shrine of Huntsville, Alabama, Scottish Rite, Valley of Huntsville, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Wall Highway Baptist Church in Madison.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Deborah (Steve) Kraft, of Kingston, Pennsylvania, Jennifer (Terry) Vanover, of Pontiac, Illinois, and Heather Snodgrass, of Madison; his sons, Vernon (Sandy) Snodgrass and Robert Snodgrass, both of Pontiac; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; his sisters, Leona Rundall, Green Rock, Arkansas, Judy (Earl) Nolan, of Rock Island, Illinois, Barbara Watts, of Galesburg, Illinois, Marie (Howard) Taylor, of Mayflower, Arkansas, Sherry Davis, of Moline, Illinois, and Nancy Chandler, of Prophetstown, Illinois; and his brothers, Donald Snodgrass, of Port Byron, Illinois, Richard (Eva) Snodgrass of Chana, Illinois and Glen (Mary) Snodgrass, of Mountain Grove, Missouri.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Robert.
