John H. Szemkus

John H. Szemkus, 62, of Donahue, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Clayton Cemetery, Clayton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Memorials may be made to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department or the Handicapped Development Center of Davenport.
John was born July 21, 1944 in Monona, Iowa, the son of Henry & Stella (Pieper) Szemkus. On August 2, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Thoma in Garnavillo, Iowa.
John served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 5 years. He retired on January 1, 2007 after 32 years of service with Altorfer, Inc. of Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Linda; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Brad Plett, of Eldridge; his son, Mark Szemkus, of Davenport; his grandsons, Alexander and Zachary; his sister, Linda Wright, of Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
