John Marvin Berry, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa formerly of Fort Dodge Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Peachtree Christian Hospice Facility in Duluth, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. As per his wishes there will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
John was born October 3, 1921 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the son of William J. and Charlotte (Rank) Berry. He was united in marriage to Mabel L. Miller on April 11, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa.
John served his Country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in WWII. He retired after many years as an engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal. He then worked for the state of Iowa.
His survivors include many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Miller Berry and his sister, Rose Berry Schraudenbach.
