John W. Seibel, 83, a resident of Riverdale, Iowa died on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Dallas Paustian and Jack Robinson, both of Riverdale, Eric Bahrenburg, Mike Sampson, Gerard Verbraak and Bill O’Connell, all of Bettendorf. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Reck of Davenport, Steve Tometich, Larry Guy, Bud Neely and Connor Stoltenberg, all of Bettendorf and Harold Mikkleson of LeClaire, Iowa.
He was born in Bettendorf on August 12, 1922, the son of John & Augusta (Schmidt) Seibel and was a 1941 graduate of Davenport High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from January of 1942 until December of 1945 with duty in the South Pacific as an Aviation Ordinance Man. He then owned and operated the Par Four Club in Bettendorf, retiring in 1988.
John married Marilyn Halverson in Moline, Illinois in 1956. He was a well-known golfer, enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter & son-in-law, Sue & Bill Rider of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; his son & daughter-in-law, David & Amy Halverson of Pleasant Valley; his granddaughters, Kristine and Brittney Halverson of Bettendorf and Lynn Rider of Pleasant Valley; his sisters-in-law, Annette Peart of Riverdale and Gayle Seibel of Placentia, California; his brothers-in-laws and their wives, DeVon & Grace Mellinger of Burlington, Iowa and Bob & Bonnie Davis of Sarasota, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anne O’Neill of Phoenix, Arizona; and his brother, Frank Seibel of Placentia, California.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf or the American Legion Post 154 of Bettendorf.
The family asks that you join them in a Celebration of Life for John immediately following the burial service at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Bettendorf for a luncheon and free spirits.
