Jon Doyce Lane, 58, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on September 6, 2007 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Jon had battled cancer for the past 4 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or St. Ambrose University.

Jon was born at his grandmother’s home in Missouri Valley, Iowa on April 6, 1949. His parents were Ralph and Ruth (Hildebrand) Lane. Jon’s mother passed away in 1997. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1967 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975. He married Rhonda Fergesen McGinn on April 22, 1978 in Manchester, Iowa.

At the time of his death, Jon was a 33-year veteran of the lumber and construction industry. In 1979 he became Manager of the Great Plains Lumber Yard in Missouri Valley. From 1980 through 1990 he held various management positions with Payless Cashways in Ankeny, Iowa, Silvis, Illinois, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport, Iowa. From 1991 through 1996 he did similar work with Menards. The last 10 years, he worked in commercial sales and millwork with Lowe's in Davenport. Jon was a dedicated University of Iowa and New York Yankees fan and he greatly enjoyed his family dogs.

He is survived by wife Rhonda, daughter Tracey McGinn of Muscatine, Iowa, son Justin Lane of Eldridge, sister Carol Lane-Hill of Iowa City, sister Nancy Lane-Gipson of Iowa City, Iowa, sister Diana Dinsdale of Mooresville, North Carolina, brother Gary Lane of Castle Rock, Colorado, father Ralph Lane of Missouri Valley, and several nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
