Jon Joseph Thorpe, 64, a resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Friday, February 23, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born January 29, 1943 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Andrew & Mary Elizabeth (Bell) Thorpe and was a graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois. On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Carol Phillips at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline.
Jon was affiliated with the Teamsters Union Local #371 for 37 years, retiring on September 30, 2004. For 25 of those years, he served as the Union Business Agent. In earlier years, he also was a truck driver with the Teamsters.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Rock Island Elks Lodge.
Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, listening to country music and watching NASCAR races.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Carol; his daughter, Pamela A. (Evan) Evans of Pleasant Valley; his granddaughter, Morgan A. Evans; his sisters, Sally A. (Richard J.) Elvidge of Davenport and Sharon E. (Charles) Droste of Kansas City, Kansas; his nieces & nephews, Susan E. Sutterman of Bettendorf, Rachel Ernsdorf of Kansas City, Kansas, Stephen A. Elvidge of Kalona, Iowa, Andrew Droste of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tammy Davidson of Rock Island; Connie Pilcher, Richard Conners and Kurt Conners, all of Bettendorf; several grand-nieces & grand-nephews; his sister-in-law, Sally (Vern) Dean of Davenport; and his brother-in-law, William (Jeanette) Phillips in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
