Funeral services for Joseph W. “Grandpa Joe” Endreshak, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 10, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born October 18, 1920 in Bettendorf, the son of Joe Henry & Anna Irene (Jurnus) Endresak. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from active duty, he served the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring in 1976.
On May 21, 1945 he was united in marriage to Violet Welch in San Diego, California. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1995.
Joe was employed as a journeyman equipment operator for the former Iowa/Illinois Gas & Electric Company retiring on October 31, 1982 after 31 ½ years of faithful service.
He was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf, a member of the Eastern Iowa Polka Club, the Navy Fleet Reserve Association, AARP, CASI and was a former member of Chancey Lutheran Church of Clinton, Iowa.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Terry (Charlene) Endreshak in Florida and Joseph (Kris) Endreshak Jr. in Texas; numerous grandchildren including those he raised, Cindy Schumacher of Bettendorf with whom he resided, Michael Endreshak of Clinton, Iowa and Teresa Crawford of Davenport, Iowa; numerous great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brothers, John (Geri) Endresak, Walter (Roseann) Endresak and James (Connie) Endresak, all of Bettendorf.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Buckenberger; his sister, Elizabeth Tadder; and his brother, Frank Endresak.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the 4 th Floor nursing staff at the Kahl Home and the staff at Hospice Compassus for their wonderful & compassionate care and a special thanks to Joe’s extended family, Marlene & Michael Ray who made sure that Joe never missed a holiday, cook-out or a family gathering.
