Joseph J. Haber, 101, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Kahl Home in Davenport.
A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Isle of Capri, Isle Center, Salon A in Bettendorf. There will also be a celebration of life in May. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Civic Center or the Bettendorf VFW.
Joe was born February 18, 1916 in Bettendorf, a son of Andreas & Katharina (Zaleszak) Haber. He was united in marriage to Anna Vanderkerchove in Davenport in 1939. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1992.
Joe was retired from JI Case in Bettendorf where he was employed for over 30 years. He will be remembered as a founding member of the Bettendorf Old-Timer's Picnics, where he provided entertainment with his accordion. Joe was a lifelong Bettendorf resident who was adored by many, especially his neighbors, Dick & Cookie, who assisted him in maintaining his independent lifestyle.
Those left to honor his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Harley & Margo Haber of Marion, Iowa; his grandchildren, Laurie Beggs of Mediapolis, Iowa, Lynne (Steve) Callanan of Shellsburg, Iowa, Matt Haber (Molly Fedler) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a granddaughter-in-law, Beth Haber of Davenport.
In addition to his wife, Anna, Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rudolph and Frank; a grandson, Christopher Haber; and a grandson-in-law, Rick Beggs.
