Joyce Joan Simons, 76, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.  A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00 P.M.  Committal services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel in Joliet, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.

She was born on November 9, 1936 in Aurora, Illinois.  On June 24, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harry M. Simons in Aurora, Illinois. In earlier years, Joyce worked at the former Harold’s on the Rock Restaurant in Moline, Illinois. She later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal where she was employed as a Program Manager and Division Chief until her retirement in 1999.  Following her retirement, she was instrumental in helping her son, Steve open his own business, River Cities Roofing and More in Davenport.

Joyce was a member of the YMCA, enjoyed water aerobics and was an active volunteer for the annual Festival of Trees.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Harry; her sons, Steven (Doreen) Simons and Brian Simons, all of Davenport; her grandchildren, Megan (Dustin) Folland of Eldridge, Iowa and Michael Eskridge of Davenport; her great-grandchildren, Keira, Sienna & Carter; her sister, Lorraine Zola of Joliet, Illinois; her special niece, Debbie (Art) Alling of Elwood, Illinois and her nephew, Paul Zola.

She was preceded in death by her father in August of 1958; her mother, June Baxter  in September of 2007; and her brother, Sonny.
