Juanita M. J. Carrillo, 76, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Juanita was born December 16, 1933 in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, the daughter of Jose Alvarado & Rosa (Sanchez) Carrillo.
In her early years Juanita aspired to be a nun. She joined the Sisters of Humility and served until she asked to be released of her vows to take care of her parents. She went on to teach 3rd grade at Hayes Elementary School, Davenport, Iowa from 1970 to 1996.
She was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was very active there.
She enjoyed playing and composing music, drawing, writing letters to people, and being with her family. She played music and sang with her siblings at Sacred Heart Church, Davenport and Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf. She composed many original songs both on her own and with her sisters. She was a very kind and generous person who would do anything for anyone. Although she had no children of her own she was a mother figure to her many nieces and nephews. She also tutored her nieces and nephews with their school work.
Those left to honor her memory include her sisters, Helen Camarena, Bettendorf, Peggy McDevitt, Davenport, Rose (Al) Beh, Davenport, Rita Carrillo, Bettendorf, and Rachel (Gene) Kraus, Davenport; her brothers, Joseph (Linda) Carrillo, Bettendorf, Ruben (Sandy) Carrillo, Peoria, Arizona, Richard Carrillo, Kingman, Arizona and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers & sister, Ruben, Rudy, Elvira and Christopher.
