Karmel Ann "Kay" Meyer, 93, of Bettendorf and formerly of Eldridge, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Bickford Cottage in Davenport from complications of a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Karmel was born March 1, 1921 on a farm outside Cincinnati , Iowa, the middle daughter of Earl & Hazel Ruby (Kinser) Hickman. She was united in marriage to Charles F. Meyer on December 16, 1966. They had farmed three miles west of Eldridge until Charles’ death in August of 2005.
Kay was also employed thirty-one years by the Rock Island Railroad, retiring as Chief Cashier in 1980.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Wanda Smith; her nieces and nephews, Mary Lou Coon, David Smith, Linda and Bill Weatherly, James and Cheri Slavens and Tom and Barbara Butenschoen.
In addition to her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by her sister, Vesta Slavens and her nephew, Bob Slavens.
