Kathleen Schaefer

Kathleen “Ruth” Schaefer, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away, Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, in Bettendorf.  Memorials may be made to Commission for the Blind, Genesis Hospice, or The America Lung Association.

Born January 2, 1928 in Bettendorf, Iowa, Ruth was the daughter of Frank and Magdalena (Andre) Pokorny.  On August 10, 1948, she married Earl A. Schaefer.  He preceded her in death April 24, 1999.

Ruth farmed with her husband in rural Scott County, retiring in 1986.  They were the 4 th generation of the Schaefer Family to operate the family farm.  She was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau and the Quad Cities Plus 60 Club.  Ruth was a member of and attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf/Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire.  She also enjoyed playing cards, “Aggie”, crocheting doilies, and will be remembered for her cinnamon rolls and fudge.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters Judy (John) Fitzgibbon of LeClaire, Iowa, Karen (Tim) MacDade of Marco Island, Florida; Sons Mike (Kim) Schaefer of Bettendorf, Iowa; 9 grandchildren Scott, Sarah, Amy, Marianne, John, Shelley, Ryan, Alex, and Allison; 6 great grandchildren Ty, Rylee, Nora, Rachel, Logan, and Avery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Mark, and her husband.
